Charlotte Song
Psychologist
Qualifications:
- BPsySc (Hons.)
- MPsych (Clinical Psychology)
Experience and Approaches
Charlotte is an experienced clinical psychologist who provides therapy to adolescents and adults, and conducts diagnostic assessments for all ages. She completed her training in Australia across Brisbane and Melbourne and received a University Medal for her undergraduate studies. She previously worked at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) for 3 years supporting children, adolescents, and adults. She also undertook leadership roles as the Psychology Lead of a psychosocial programme for children with cancer and their families, and supervising associate psychologists and students.
In therapy, Charlotte prefers going beyond a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach, drawing on Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). She believes in helping individuals understand how childhood and previous experiences can develop negative core beliefs and patterns of behaviour and equipping and empowering them with skills to be independent in their coping. She strives to create a therapy space that is warm, open, and comfortable with a dash of humour, and is a neuro-affirming and trauma-informed clinician.
Charlotte also conducts comprehensive psychological assessments for children and adults in diagnosing ADHD, autism, and learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia). She has a special interest in diagnostic assessments in populations which are frequently overlooked or tend to receive late diagnoses (e.g., women/girls, internalised presentations, LGBTIQA+).
Charlotte has interests in the following concerns:
• Anxiety and mood difficulties (including suicidal thoughts and/or self-harm)
• Traumatic experiences
• Helping to explore and understand one’s neurodivergent profile post-diagnosis
• Autistic burnout, masking
• Health issues impacting on mental health
• Mental health needs of minority groups (e.g., neurodivergent, LGBTIQA+)
• Perfectionism
• Grief and loss
• Attachment issues
Personal information
Charlotte has lived in the UK, Singapore, and Australia and is familiar with the Singapore and international school systems from her own experience as a student. While she grew up in Singapore, she identifies most as a third-culture kid and understands the challenges of trying to find your place amidst change. Outside of work, Charlotte enjoys a good cup of coffee or matcha, trying to catch up on her reading list, and lifting weights.
